Why do I keep thinking about mass shootings?

This is a serious question. For the past 2 months, I keep imagining myself shooting a bunch of people. I would never actually do this but I keep imagining wearing some cool clothes, playing some cool or violent music and just walking into a school with a gun. That or shooting people from on top of a building to feel like a god, mabye in honor of someone I am obsessed with. Also I sometimes just imagine people wronging me or my girlfriend badly so then I stab them or shoot them. I don't think I am a sociopath or psychopath because I can somewhat feel empathy, perhaps a narcissist though. Half of the time I think about this when upset, half of the time just because. I just don't know what is causing this obsession with this thought... would a therapist report me for confessing this? I feel like a degenerate that deserves to perish.

as long as you emphasize that you are only thinking these things and would never act on them, they wont report you.  the whole purpose of therapy is to help people beat their demons.

do you play violent video games?  if so, take a break from them for a while and see how you feel.  if you can't stop thinking about it and it becomes an obsession, you need to let your therapist know.  

just know that there are people out there that feel the same kinds of things you do; what you do with those feelings is solely up to you.  you can give in and ruin your life and the lives of your victims, or you can get help and save lives, including your own.
